    Anticipating the Holidays

    Happy Holidays

At Over the Rainbow, we have a very nice selection of gift ideas, holiday cards and some wrapping paper, Christmas décor, both new and vintage, that you won’t find anywhere else around here, and much more. We are small but we pack a mighty amount of merchandise into this space. We’d love for you to visit and shop. We’re decorated inside for the holidays already, and by next week we’ll be lighting up the night [though always mindful of the Dark Sky Initiative that is keeping our area one of the most beautiful for stargazing…

    Almost Famous

Over the Rainbow Tx October 23

Maybe Not Famous But Grateful ~ I am grateful for the friends we have made in Fort Davis, in Marfa and in Alpine, many of them small business owners themselves. I am also ever so grateful for all of our regular customers, for the chance to get to know some of these lovely people better (and also for all of the customers who come from places like, Austin, San Antonio, Midland , El Paso, or even Houston, Dallas or Fort Worth. Many of these are regulars also, coming once twice or more often a year,…

On the Deck, festooned with rustic decor, ceramic bells, plants and pots, and gorgeous wreaths, you get a vista of the surrounding mountains that just can’t be had from town. Marcia has stocked the store not only with her own gorgeous floral wreaths, arrangements and creations, but absolutely the best selection of gift ideas I’ve seen anywhere in West Texas so far. You…

    Earth Day 2023

Earth Day/ Week/ Month/ Year I started my first Blog in 2012 or so, and as far as I can remember, an Earth Day post has been written every year since that time. I was observing Earth Day long before that. In fact, pretty much since that first Earth Day in 1970. As a teenager on her way to becoming an activist of one sort or another for the remainder of her life, I realized how dire the outlook for this planet had become. Jump forward over five decades, and the same can be said.…

Almost Spring Break in West Texas~ March, the first month of Spring, when the Calendar finally makes it official, and when everyone from families of school age children to college students take advantage of some time off to explore, is upon us. In West Texas, we will be ready to greet the many tourists that seek out this wild and wide open corner of the Lone Star State. Spring Break is a divider for us. The wind is still wild, the weather still changeable and unpredictable, but wildflowers and tree buds are showing up everywhere,…
